Bill Waters is retiring from the partnership of Macfie & Co. with effect from 31st January, 2010.
Having been pivotal in the overall development of the firm itself and the professional development of the majority of those employed within it, Bill now passes the reins to partners Graeme Dickson and John Walker, whose combined experience in factoring spans almost fifty years.
Bill began his career as a General Practice Surveyor in 1967, working for R & W Hall, Paisley followed by the Estates Department of Glasgow Corporation. He joined traditional Glasgow Factors, John Laing of Bridge Street, Glasgow, cutting his factorial teeth in the punishing environment of maintaining (at that time) largely unimproved tenemental stock against the limiting back-drop of clients’ portfolios which were subject to statutorily controlled rents.
Having become principal of Laings and following amalgamations with various other businesses throughout the years, the partnership of Macfie & Co. was formed in 1983. Bill became Principal following the death of Nicol Macfie in 1995.
Bill’s dogged tenacity drove the business forward through harsh economic and meteorological climates and a continually shifting legislative and business environments.
Bill’s impression on the firm and the staff will undoubtedly be long-lasting. He leaves with our best wishes.
